Specialist Spinning Ltd. was formed in December 2003. We process alpaca fleece using modified woollen mill machinery.
Card Line Number 2
At our premises in Oxfordshire the process starts at the Fearnought blender\opener. The sorted fleece is weighed and fed into the blender. It then passes through the machine and is blown to the specially constructed storage chambers, ready for carding.
The yarn, now spun onto tubes, is next wound onto cones ready for delivery or further processing.
The fleece is then processed on one of two carding and scribbling lines.
As it passes from the card to the scribbler it flows over the scotch feed.
The fibres are gradually aligned and beautiful roving is produced.
The roving is then skillfully spun on one of two mules.
Scribbling
The cones are stacked neatly into boxes.
